Love Potion Altered Tin

Hello folks!  Today on the Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts blog I share a lighter version of my year 'round skeleton obsession.  Our friend here is in love and offers you a little magic love potion... don't mind the tombstones over there.  His love lasts an eternity.

I started out with the GSL products I needed to paint/finish with wet stuff.  I cut the tree with a paper cutter.

I knew the skellie would hold something, so I snipped the connector piece at the ribs and left the shoulder bone attached.  Later I reinforced the shoulder bone with a spot of clear glue on the back.

With my typical finger painting style, I covered all the chipboard with white gesso.

I wasn't sure how the tombstones would look at the end, so I started with the general color I was hoping for... The silver was covered over with a Golden micaceous iron oxide later, then I used a tiny bit of white acrylic paint on my finger tip for a weathered marble look.  It worked out even though it doesn't really look like weathered marble.  :)

I finger-dabbed white acrylic paint on the skeleton, then used a tiny brush with a super-watered-down brown to age him.  I painted one small section at a time, waited a beat or two then dabbed the excess of with a paper towel.

I covered the love potion "label" on the paper with Diamond Glaze and let it sit over night.  I'll be honest that I don't love this product since it's prone to air bubbles and is much thinner than Ranger Glossy Accents.  I'm working my way to the bottom of the bottle because I can't bring myself to throw it away.

The love potion paper and the various edges were cut out and glued in with Glue n Seal.  I used a scrap piece of wood for the base, and screwed it in.  (I'm moving away from just gluing these types of parts together; you don't have to!)

Here's a look at the finished GSL skeleton, creepy tree, and tombstones.  The piles of excess chipboard and the paper-covered pile of chipboard next to the skeleton are going to be used behind the pieces to create a 3D effect.

The tree was glued in then I layered the tombstones and "ground fog".  I used regular white glue for each of these layers.

The skelly boost was glued on the back, then I added him to the tin along with his party hat!  The shoulder reinforcement glue is visible in this photo also.  It was just a little bit, but it made me feel better.

Ta da!  It's party time!

Here's a look at the back. I will probably add more silver tinsel around the edges.

Thanks for your visit today!

Cheers,
Susan

The Patriot Altered Tin

Hi folks! It's about time I share a few new things with you. I've been working on more shadow boxes and such lately. This is "The Patriot".

The tin once held a big bar of fancy soap. It's about 5"x3"x2". Inside are some great vintage patriotic finds. The bunting is a sort of paper-y woven ribbon. I did the accordion fold and sewed the red section together, then fanned it out. The flag is an amazing piece, as is the piper. It's worth clicking on the above phote to get a closer look at the flag. The buttons are also old, and the tatting behind "Toledo For Me" once held a pearl instead of a message.

This wooden figure was found in a jumbled box of old lead soldiers at a toy store we frequent. He is perfectly battered and aged, don't you think?

This is one of 5 pieces I have in a local gallery right now. How cool is that?

Thanks for visiting today. I hope you're having a creative weekend!

Cheers,
Susan

Gather 'Round - It's Story Time

Hiya dear friends! It's another scorcher outside so why don't we all just gather around (in this cool air conditioning) for a little story?

Make yourself comfortable. It's a little snug with all the fairies filling the small spaces, but I think we can manage! After all... it's bigger on the inside...

It's a 3 1/4" x 5" tin set up on a pedestal that was sanded, painted, distressed, painted and sanded some more until the colors were just right.

It's similar to another I made in February.  I had many leftover bits and pieces from the first that I just had to make another. :) This time I put it on a stand and used vintage tatting as trim.

Fussy cutting is a favorite technique, and there's a lot of it here! You can't see in the photos, but there are little flowers all over the inside corners. It's a nice little surprise if you peek in...

Thanks for visiting. Have a great day!

Cheers,
Susan

G45 Olde Curiosity Shoppe Tin

Hiya crafty folks! Yesterday was a bright sunny day and I was able to get outside for a little yard work. Today will be gorgeous also, if you can believe the weather man. *wink* I choose to believe!

I have another project made during my Graphic 45 marathon, this time with Olde Curiosity Shoppe. This is a really fun line with loads of neat oddities. I used a window tin with the acrylic window cut out. I'm pretty pleased with the framing effect.

Here's a view of the right inside edge. For the hanging jar, I cut a slit in the cork lid and shimmied the "knees" into it, then glued the cork lid to the glass. Many of the bottles on the G45 paper are covered with Glossy Accents.

Here is the left inside edge. I layered a wicked moth and put him on the side - what a surprise! The wooden clock is one of the new Prima embellishments, and hanging from it is a pendulum charm and bit of metal.

Here's the back (shot at an odd angle). The tag has my shipping info so the kind folks at Graphic 45 can send it back to me once their design team decisions are made. *wink*

So that's it for me. Thanks so much for visiting today!

Cheers,
Susan
